The Anesthesiology residents at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine were proud to host the 2015 Mid-Atlantic Anesthesia Research Conference (MAARC) on April 18, 2015.
Tailored to residents, fellows, and medical students of 38 Mid-Atlantic Anesthesiology residency programs, the MAARC welcomed more than 70 attendees and featured 30 presentations in scientific and medically challenging categories. The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) awarded prizes to the top three entries. Distinguished Anesthesiology researchers from GW (Dr. May Chin), the University of Virginia (Dr. Edward Nemergut), and the University of Massachusetts (Dr. Shubjeet Kaur) gave talks on leading anesthesiology topics in the news, including pain management, patient safety, and the perioperative surgical home model. A lunchtime keynote address by Denham S. Ward, M.D., Ph.D., president and CEO of FAER, was complemented by hands-on workshop sessions for participants in the GW Simulation Center. These sessions were guided by experts and GW residents, and included simulation in laryngoscopy, fiberoptic bronchoscopy and ultrasound for trauma protocols and regional anesthesia.
FAER awarded residents for research projects that were presented and evaluated throughout the event during a cocktail reception at the conclusion of the day.
