Each year, one of the three fellowship positions will be considered for designation as a pediatric pain medicine-focused slot. Pediatric Pain Medicine-focused fellows will be assigned to Children's National for 6 months of pediatric pain medicine practice in the Children's National Pediatric Pain Clinic, caring for both in-patient and out-patient patients. Other experiences will include child neurology headache clinic, acute pain medicine and acupuncture. One month of elective time is afforded to the pediatric pain-focused fellow.
The fellows accepted to the fellowship are individuals with a strong interest in the academic practice of pediatric pain medicine (and pediatric anesthesia when applicable).
The GW-Children's National Pediatric Pain Medicine fellowship is an ACGME accredited program, that offers 6 dedicated months of pediatric pain medicine at Children's National Hospital and 6 months of practice split between GW and the DC Veteran's Affairs Hospitals and clinics. Completion of the fellowship affords eligibility for the ABA and ABPMR board certification in Pain Medicine.
We are looking for candidates who share our passion for pediatric chronic pain and are determined to make practice of pediatric chronic pain a significant part of their career. Fellows are prepared for independent practice following graduation. In addition to clinical experience, robust didactics provide the requisite knowledge to inform cutting edge clinical practice.
Application: When completing your ERAS application, please be sure address in your Personal Statement the following: 1) Identify yourself as a candidate who would like to be considered for the Pediatric Pain Medicine-focused fellowship position; and 2) how you developed your interest in caring for children with chronic pain and your plans after fellowship.
